A new voice to mysticism in contemporary English

A Course in Miracles

EXPLAINED

Description

A Course in Miracles is one of those books that many people open and very few finish. Those who put it down usually do so for one of two reasons: either they do not understand what it is about, or they think they understand it and feel they
knew it already. Both are the same misunderstanding, and this book was written to undo it.

The Course is about two things, and only two: what you are and what is real. Everything else—the ego, the world, forgiveness, the miracle—follows from the answer to those two questions. This book answers them in the order in which one leads to the other, as questions and answers: the questions anyone asks when reading the Course, answered without asking you to believe anything beforehand, not even in God.

After twenty-five years of study and practice, and after translating the whole Course from its original manuscript, the author offers here what he would have liked someone to tell him on the first day.

Particulars of this Edition

A Course in Miracles EXPLAINED is the first book from Gongarola Editions written for the general reader. The other titles in the catalogue, the six volumes of the Gongarola Version and its companions, assume that you have the Course open beside you; this one assumes nothing. It is written for people who have heard of the Course and want to know what it actually says, for those who opened it once and put it down, and also for longtime students who want to see its whole thought laid out in order. It presupposes no familiarity with the text, no philosophy, and no belief of any kind.

The form is a conversation. A reader asks the questions anyone asks when they first meet the Course—what it means by God, why it says the world is a dream, what forgiveness has to do with any of this—and the author answers them one at a time, in plain language, in the order in which each answer makes the next one possible. The questions are the real ones, including the skeptical ones, and nothing is settled by appeal to authority: every answer rests on the Course’s own words, quoted from the Gongarola Version. The result reads like a dialogue rather than a treatise, which is what makes a difficult teaching easy to follow without making it any less exact.
